| Our Research Programs
Research projects utilise program capabilities in grain genomics and grain applications:
Grain Genomics Program
Grain Applications Program |
Led by Southern Cross University's Centre for Plant Conservation Genetics under the leadership of Research Director, Professor Robert Henry.
Led by BRI Australia Limited under the leadership of Research Director, Dr Ken Quail |
The Program's capabilities include genetic analysis, genetic transformation, gene discovery, bioinformatics, custom DNA manufacturing, high security plant breeding, molecular markers and diagnostics & quarantine.
The Program's capabilities include grain science, quality assessment, sensory testing, grain processing, flour milling, baking, food product development, ingredients, nutrients, Phytochemistry and thermal processing. |
The program harnesses advanced genomics technologies, such as Serial Analysis of Gene Expression (SAGE), Expressed Sequence Tag (EST) detection, DNA sequencing by capillary electrophoresis, micro-array technology, Targeted Inducted Local Lesions in Genomes (TILLING), and Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) detection.
BRI research laboratories are NATA accredited for food testing, nutrient analysis, fibre assays, single kernel characterisation system, NIR, cereal chemistry, texture analysis, shelf-life testing, rheology, bread structure (C-Cell analyser). Research projects maintain close consultation with industry partners. |
